Spearhead Multicut Flex Wing Slasher in Action

When it comes to managing natural pasture effectively, Mark Coulton from northern New South Wales has found a system that delivers real results.

Operating his property “Orban,” located between Warialda and Bingara, Mark runs a steer backgrounding operation where pasture quality plays a critical role in overall performance. After years of aerial fertilising, he recognised the need to better manage pasture height and improve palatability for his cattle.

“We purchased the Spearhead Multicut to better manage the natural pasture on our property,” Mark explains. “We have been fertilising by air for a number of years and needed a way to keep the pasture short and more palatable.”

Since introducing the Spearhead Multicut Flex Wing Slasher, the impact has been immediate and measurable.

One of the standout features for Mark is the machine’s ability to closely follow the land’s contours—something particularly important on his property.

“I like its robust construction and the way it follows the contour of the ground, especially over contour banks,” he says. “It chops the grass into short lengths and spreads it evenly across the full width of the machine, which helps increase organic material back into the soil.”

With approximately 500 hectares already slashed, the machine has proven its reliability in demanding conditions.

“It hasn’t missed a beat,” Mark says.

Beyond the machine’s performance, the real value has been seen in livestock productivity. By maintaining more consistent pasture quality, Mark has observed noticeable improvements in how his cattle graze—and grow.

“We’ve seen improved daily weight gains since we’ve been topping the pasture,” he explains. “The cattle are now utilising the entire paddock, whereas before there were areas of rank grass they wouldn’t touch.”

For Mark, the results speak for themselves.

“I would have no hesitation in recommending this machine to any prospective purchasers.”
